well-worn
a collection of dobby woven fabric exploring human interactions with denim
I explored the way the body and daily activities stress denim, the afterlife of worn denim used in art, and denim as a canvas for personal expression. Visual information comes from different methods of mending and repairing, referencing sashiko and boro, quilts made from worn clothes by the women of Gee’s Bend, Ann Hamilton’s installation indigo blues, 1970’s and 80’s style icons in embellished denim, and DIY and high fashion style. I took these very different applications of repurposing the same material and created work on the theme of resourcefulness.
